NewsGator is a company that has a collection of webfeed aggregators. NewsGator's web based aggregator provides a Web API, principally for synchronizing reader status across the family of products. Note that the products are actually pretty good including NetNewsWire and FeedDemon, but the API, being SOAP based, wasn't particularly friendly, at least to these eyes.
Or at least until now. The NewsGator API has been recast into REST (PDF). NewsGator online becomes one of the few (only?) web based aggregators with a lightweight Web API that supports modifying the shared state at a fine granularity. (Please!! Correct me if I'm wrong. Acking UserLand based aggregators that support XML-RPC).
The nut is that NewsGator becomes another interesting aggregation platform, like endo, where background processing stuff can usefully interrogate and drive really good clients. We're creeping closer to putting some hackability into the DailyMe.
